Cheshire and Wirral community transport
County Advice Overview
There are a number of Community Transport schemes operating across Cheshire and Wirral. These include Dial-a-Ride services, local accessible minibus hire, patient transport and community cars.
Dial-a-Ride (it may operate under a different name in your area) is a pre-bookable telephone transport service for people who find accessing public transport difficult due to disability or living in a rural location.
Patient Transport schemes provide support for people to travel to medical appointments.
Community Car schemes allow users to travel with a volunteer driver.
There is also a national, private travelling companion service called Driving Miss Daisy. (Charges apply)
Key Tips
Plan your journey and book well in advance.
Bear in mind that not all services cover all days or areas.
Be clear about your accessibility requirements – there may be limits on what mobility equipment can be used. Discuss this with the service provider prior to booking.
If you need someone to travel with you, mention that you will have a companion at the time of booking. (There may be additional charges)
Be clear on charges and how they are to be paid.
