Hertfordshire ShopMobility

Overview

ShopMobility UK is a nationwide network of centres which hire out mobility equipment to the public. This equipment is mainly manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters so people with restricted mobility can enjoy independence outdoors. These hire services are low cost or sometimes free to all ages of people looking to access shops and leisure facilities. 

Anyone of any age can use local ShopMobility services. ShopMobility is not only for elderly individuals or people with chronic disabilities, it provides support for those restricted by temporarily illness or injury. Maybe you have broken your leg or have strength problems after an operation? Do you have a child with disabilities who needs pushing in a wheelchair? Or you may simply find walking longer distances difficult. Whatever your need, each centre is ready to help you access your local shops and facilities with appropriate mobility equipment. 

Hire costs vary at each local ShopMobility Centre; however, typically they are very low or sometimes free.

St Albans ShopMobility

Drovers Way Car Park – next to the parking shop.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9.30am to 4.00pm
Tuesday & Thursday from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

The Galleria Hatfield

This service is available from the Jim McDonald Centre, Hilltop, Hatfield. Open 7 days a week, you will need to become a member to use services. Membership will allow you to use the scheme as often as you wish, free of charge.

On your first visit, you will need to provide two forms of identification, proving your name and address.

Wheelchairs can also be borrowed for up to twelve weeks. For example, if you are going on holiday or recovering from an accident. It is advisable to ring in advance on 01707 270066. 

A hire fee of £5 per week is chargeable.

Tuesday – Closed all day
Wednesday – 9.30am to 3.00pm
Thursday – 9.30am to 3.00pm
Friday – 9.30am to 3.00pm
Saturday – 9.30am to 3.00pm

The shop will be closed from 12.30pm to 1.00pm each day for lunch.

In addition to daily hire, there is one holiday scooter for hire – which folds down for travel by car.
