Greater Manchester boats

County advice overview

There are no ferry ports in Greater Manchester. The closest ferry port is in Liverpool.

Ferries to and from Liverpool are operated by companies such as the Isle of Man Steam Packet, Stena Line and P&O Ferries, with routes to Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Key tips

Comparing ferry companies can be useful to help you find the best price, at the best time for you.

When you search for a ferry to Liverpool, view a range of times as it may be cheaper to travel earlier or later.

You can view prices, times, and results for similar ports like Heysham, Holyhead and Liverpool Birkenhead, and book tickets by visiting the aferry.com website.

Stena Line

Special assistance

P&O Ferries

If you have any special requirements, such as parking close to the lift, or if you need special assistance onboard, you should inform P&O Ferries when making your booking.

Further information can be found on the P&O Ferries website.

If you, or someone you are caring for has a disability that may not be immediately apparent, P&O Ferries can provide a Sunflower Lanyard which acts as a discreet sign for staff that additional support or assistance may be required.

To request a lanyard before travel, you can email travelassistance@poferries.com

Additionally, you can collect a lanyard on your day of travel, at check-in or from the reception desk on board.

Stena Line

If you have a disability, reduced mobility or other impairment, and require assistance, Stena Line ask you to advise them of your specific requirements at least 48 hours in advance of travel.

Contact: 03447 707 070 or email assistance@stenaline.com

(Emails should be sent at least 7 days before departure.)

Stena Line may require that you travel with an attendant if it is essential for safety reasons. For instance, if you are unable to assist in your own evacuation from the ferry, if you require assistance to be lifted, if you require personal care assistance or are unable to understand safety instructions. If this is the case, there will be no additional fee for the attendant.

Isle of Man Steam Packet

If you require special assistance, you should inform the Isle of Man Steam Packet at the time of booking or at least 48 hours prior to your departure. You can contact the Reservations team for further information on 01624 661661.

A courtesy bus for foot passengers can be arranged at Liverpool port, or if you are taking your vehicle onboard, you can request to park close to a lift.

Further information can be found on the Isle of Man Steam packer website.

Travelling with mobility equipment

P&O Ferries

Due to the design of the ships on the Liverpool to Dublin route, it is not accessible to wheelchair customers, as there is no lift to the passenger accommodation and therefore no accessible cabins on board.

For further information, contact the P&O customer service team: customer.services@poferries.com

Stena Line

Almost all of Stena Line ports & ferries are adapted to suit the needs of disabled and reduced mobility passengers. Some ferries and some sailings may have a restriction on the number of guests in wheelchairs and guests using mobility devices who can travel. It is recommended to check in advance or at the time of booking.

Call 03447 707 070 (at least 48 hours prior to departure) or

Email assistance@stenaline.com (at least 7 days before departure)

Assistance dogs are entitled to free travel and have full access to the passenger decks on all Stena Line routes and vessels. You should notify the operator at the time of booking that you will be travelling with an assistance dog. All assistance dogs must have the necessary paperwork when checking in at the port and must wear the correct harnesses and jackets while travelling.

Isle of Man Steam Packet

On some occasions, due to tidal/berth conditions or vehicle deck restrictions, it may take longer to disembark passengers who require the courtesy bus to take them ashore. There may also be a longer walking distance to the Terminal Buildings.

For passengers with reduced mobility, the use of collapsible wheelchairs is advised. For safety reasons, the number of wheelchair passengers on any particular sailing may be restricted.

You can contact the Reservations team for further information on 01624 661661.
