Patient Transport

Some people may be eligible for patient transport which is a non-emergency service to get people to medical appointments. 

The service provides free transport to people who have medical conditions and may need support during a journey, people who find it difficult to walk, and parents or guardians of children being transported.

In Cumbria and across the North West, patient transport services are operated by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). 

Voluntary community car schemes

The Voluntary Social Car Scheme is a door-to-door service which can be used for doctor and dentist appointments, shopping, making public transport connections and visiting friends. Passengers pay a contribution towards the cost of the transport. If two or more people travel, then the fare is shared between them. For more information call 07788 396194.
