Patient Transport Services
The Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) is for patients who:
- Need to travel to and from an appointment at a hospital or clinic
- Are discharged from hospital (and meet the eligibility criteria), or
- Need to transfer between centres, and because of their medical condition cannot make their own way.
Meeting the eligibility criteria for transport
The criteria that determine whether or not you are eligible for NEPTS have been set by the Department of Health and are based upon whether your medical condition prevents you from travelling by any other means.
All operators of patient transport are now required to apply these rules, so whilst you may have previously been able to use patient transport this may no longer be the case if you are not deemed eligible.

Voluntary community cars
Bathford Link
For residents of Kingsdown and Bathford who cannot access conventional public transport and need to travel to medical appointments, dentists, hairdressers and opticians.

Limpley Stoke and Freshford Transport Link
For people who cannot access conventional public transport. Can be used for shopping, medical appointments and other activities. Transport is available to Bath and North East Somerset, and Mendip areas. The transport link is a voluntary organisation using volunteer drivers. Donations are requested to cover expenses.

Chew Valley Community Transport
A car scheme covering the Bath and North East Somerset villages of the Chew Valley and along the A37 to Clutton, to help people get to vital medical appointments within the Valley and beyond. Passengers are asked to give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice when booking a journey. Donations are requested to cover a volunteer driver’s expenses.

Farmborough Good Neighbours
A voluntary driver organisation for Farmborough residents with medical needs. Services can be used for journeys to the hospital, doctors and other medical appointments. Lifts are organised by two FGN members who require 24-hour notice.

Keynsham and Saltford Friends in Need
This service is run by Churches Together in Keynsham and Saltford and can assist with transport for any elderly and housebound clients to go to the doctors, dentist, and hospital appointments. Passengers must be mobile as the service does not transport wheelchair users. Transport can be arranged to Bath and Bristol Hospitals but not Southmead.

SWAN Volunteer Transport Scheme
Services are available for older, frail or disabled people on low incomes living in BANES and can be used for journeys for visiting friends or family, attending social activities, health related appointments, shopping, attending training or educational facilities, or for a trip out. There is no joining fee but donations are requested. Most drivers can accommodate a rollator/walker (with prior warning) which can be carried in the car boot.

Companion driving services
Paid companion driver services should be registered with the local authority in the same way as regular taxis.

Helping Hands focus on tasks such as running errands, grocery shopping and support with social activities.
